STEVE SPACEK
If you crave soul music imbued with electronic mystique and a touch of interstellar adventure, Steve Spacek is your sonic guide. Hailing from South London, Steve has been a driving force in the world of music for over two decades. His journey began in the early '90s as part of the band Stex, where they unleashed the underground hit 'Still Feel the Rain,' featuring the remarkable guitar talents of Johnny Marr from 'The Smiths' and production wizardry from Dave Ball of 'Soft Cell.' This propelled them into the top 40 charts, establishing Steve as a musical force to be reckoned with. The '90s saw Steve honing his production skills across diverse avenues of dance music. Then, in 1996, he united with session drummer Morgan Zarate, guitarist Edmond Cavill, bassist Francis Hilton, and keyboardist Steve Morgan to form Spacek, an Electronic Soul/RnB band that pushed the boundaries of sound. Their debut track 'Eve' rewrote the rules, blending Hip Hop, Soul, and electronica in an entirely novel way, propelled by Steve Spacek's distinctive vocals and innovative songwriting. Often referred to as the ‘Radiohead of Soul’ by music fans and tastemakers.
The turn of the century marked a new chapter as Spacek released 'Vintage Hi Tech,' an electronic funk soul spectacle with a stripped-down production style. Once again, Steve Spacek's vocal prowess took listeners on a journey through the cosmos, affirming that their unique sound was no fluke but a testament to their intergalactic ambition. Fast forward to modern times, Steve Spacek unveils his debut solo album, 'Space Shift.' It's a more upbeat and lush soundscape compared to the band's last release, 'Vintage Hi-Tech.' Most of this album was produced and recorded in the heart of Hollywood, Los Angeles. Steve enlisted some musical luminaries, such as legendary singer-songwriter and producer Leon Ware, known for his work on Marvin Gaye's 'I Want You' album, among others. Also, the late but forever influential J Dilla, a former member of the underground Hip Hop powerhouse 'Slum Village' and producer for stars like Common, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and D'Angelo, among others. With these exceptional talents joining Steve Spacek, this debut solo offering becomes a music lover's dream and a sonic dreamscape.

The entire album was produced using iPhone and iPad apps, showcasing Spacek's innovative approach to technology. In Steve's own words: "It's been well overdue for me to be releasing some 4/4 House vibes! This music has been a big part of my musical journey from the very beginning. Mainly from two angles. The first is, of course, the early rave scene in London and the UK in general, with all its early iterations. The other angle is the music production angle: I've always used the basic 4/4 template as a means of being able to learn a new piece of recording equipment.” Stay tuned for 2024 as Steve relaunches his own imprint SPA Recordings with a plethora of new material, hidden gems from the vaults and classic reissues of his legacy material.
